Pit Party Announcement   -   Special Invitation

Hey everybody!  The annual AKA Holiday Classic Mixer is being changed this year to a Pit Party being held at the AKA Speedway.  The trophies from the the day's race will be awarded at the gathering. Hold on to your seats as Scott Batten, the event announcer, takes us through an exciting night with his unique style.

This party will be hosted by AKA club members and will include a dinner buffet and a selection of beverages. We have bribed the weathermen to provide moderate temperatures and no rain! Best of all, we will have the opportunity to welcome our out-of-town racers. This is a great time for hanging out with your fellow racers, both locally and nationally, and getting to know their friends and families.  Plan on enjoying fire pits, music, and plenty of bench racing.  Everyone plan to be part of this Holiday Classic tradition!

4-Cycle Billet Rods Approved

To accommodate 4-cycle racers whose local rules allow "after-market" rods, it has been officially announced that "after-market" billet rods are approved for use in all 4-cycle kart classes at this year's Holiday Classic. Research indicates that the strength of the "after-market" billet rod improves engine durability but does not provide any increase in power. The AKA board has approved the use of the billet rod as a club local-option rule for 2008.

"RUN FOR THE CRYSTAL"     Modified

As a gentle reminder to all racers, only 25 of the Holiday Classic Crystal trophies are being manufactured. There are currently 48 classes offered on the 4 day race schedule. The 25 classes with the greatest number of entries as of December 1st will have the opportunity to "run for the crystal". Help make sure your class is one of the top 25 by getting your registrations submitted by December 1st. This will also save you $20 per class. Also remember that entering any three classes on the first 3 days will earn you a 50% savings on the Kahuna race entry on day 4.

Good luck to all racers.

Arizona Sports and Tourism Grant Award

Fred Hintz, President of Arizona Karting Association has received notification from the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority that the club has been awarded a $40,000 grant. The grant is to be used for the installation of new generation lighting at the club's race facility. The proposed improvement includes upgrading the existing track lighting and adding poles and light fixtures for pit lighting. Fred Hintz and Paul French were instrumental in preparing and presenting the grant proposal. Construction for the new project is scheduled to begin following this year's running of the Holiday Classic.

HC Champion's Trophy

The Holiday Classic is pleased to announce that the prestigious Champion's Trophy will again be sponsored by Alumco, Inc. of Phoenix. The Phoenix based manufacturing company is providing all materials and labor including the gorgeous true crystal centerpiece. The trophies have an estimated value of $400 each. Only 25 of the stunning crystal trophies are being produced and those will be awarded to largest classes at this year's Classic. Send your entries in before December 1st to insure that one of these trophies will be available for your class.

Terry Riggins returns as Holiday Classic Race Director for "2008"

The Holiday Classic is pleased to announce that Terry Riggins from Anderson, Indiana will return as Race Director for the 2008 Holiday Classic. With over 20 years of experience in race officiating, Terry Riggins, and his wife Shirley bring a professional  level of officiating to the Classic. As an experienced kart driver for the past 30 years, Terry truly understands the driver's perspective of race officiating. His recent officiating experience involves numerous forms of kart racing including eight years as race director of indoor speedway racing in the RCA Dome. Additionally, Terry has served as promoter and race director for numerous Grand Prix street races throughout the Midwest. For the past 10 years, Terry has also filled numerous officiating roles with SKUSA, most recently serving as race director for the SKUSA Supernationals. As a husband and wife officiating team, Terry and Shirley Riggins bring a rare combination of officiating experience, kart racing experience, fairness, and family values to our sport. As a testament to his abilities, Terry raced in last year's Holiday Classic Animal Master's class.

HC Racing Age Requirements

Holiday Classic Event Coordinators, announced that the 2008 Holiday Classic will be treated as a 2008 racing year event. Racers are invited to enter HC classes based on their age eligibility during the 2008 seasons. Any racer eligible to race in an age group during either the 2008 season (per I.K.F. rules) is invited to enter classes in that same age group at the Classic. You may only compete in one age group per day. Remember that once you move up in age group, you may not go back down. Jr. Jr. participants must be ages 5 - 8, and Master's class entrants must be at least 40 years old to enter their respective HC classes. If you have questions, email:  fehsins@aol.com

Tire Rule

The Holiday Classic is following its recent tradition of offering an open tire rule for all competitors. There will be no limitations regarding tire preparations. Competitors are urged to consider safety at all times in the handling and storage of all chemicals.

Transponder Scoring to be used during the 2008 Holiday Classic

Arizona Karting Association is pleased to announce that electronic transponder scoring will be used during this year's Holiday Classic. The track has an imbedding scoring loop in the track at the start/finish line. For race participants that have not previously raced with transponders, mounting brackets for the transponders will be on sale at registration. Each kart participating in the event will be required to have a mounting bracket installed in the seat area. Pre-tech officials will have tools on hand to assist racers with the installation. Because of the critical mounting of the transponder, it is recommended that racers wait until pre-tech to get specific bracket installation directions. Pricing for the mounting bracket is expected to be $5, and daily rental of the transponders is included in the class registration fee. Transponders will be issued each morning during pre-tech inspection, and will be retrieved immediately following each main event.

Transponder Mounting Instructions

Transponder bracket may be mounted anywhere in the left half of the kart between the driver's hip and the rear axle. We need to be able to reach the transponders easily from the left side of the kart. You may mount them on the left side of the seat, on the rear of the seat, or on the inside of the left side nerf bar. Please do not mount them in front of the driver's hip, or behind the rear axle. Please do not mount them anywhere on the outside of the kart. Please make sure that any bracket mounting hardware does not protrude above the transponder mounting surface. This can cause the transponder housing to crack. If you have any questions about mounting your transponder bracket, we will be glad to help you properly mount your bracket during the Holiday Classic pre-tech inspection.

Fuel Pump-Around Stations

Fuel pump-around stations will be used again during the Holiday Classic. The event will feature fuel "pump-around" for all methanol, gas/oil, and pump gasoline classes. To begin each day of competition, every kart will be required to report to pre-tech inspection with an empty fuel tank. You may then continue to the fuel area to fill your tank. For the balance of the race day each kart will have its fuel tank pumped empty and refilled prior to each heat race and main event. Please be sure to be in line a few minutes early at the proper fuel station. You won't want the wrong fuel in your tank, and we won't want the wrong fuel in our tank. Race fuel will also be provided for practice day. Fuel filters are fitted to the Pump-around stations to insure that contaminants are removed from race fuels. Please remember that no smoking is allowed within 100 feet of the fuel area! Thanks for your cooperation with our efforts to provide a fair race event!

Pre-grid Improvements Completed

Arizona Karting Association has announced that a major improvement project has been completed at its speedway karting facility. Over 3500 square feet of concrete has been poured in the pre-grid and scale runoff areas. The concrete surfaces provide an improved area for staging of race classes and will help to eliminate dust in this area. The project was spearheaded by Fred Hintz and Billy Ellenberger, with several others providing assistance. Moe's Concrete offered a discounted price on the materials and labor required to perform the job. Billy Ellenberger of Specialty Excavating provided site preparation and finish level grading. Funding for the project came from the Holiday Classic Fund and personal donations from Fred Hintz. AKA wishes to thank everyone involved in making this project a reality!
