When you think of American Motor
sports you may think of names like Jeff Gordon,
Alex Zanardi, Buddy Rice, Kasey Kahne and many others.
Many of the drivers you watch on Sundays began their
racing careers in Go-Kart racing.
Kart Racing has been around since
the 1950's. It has grown from Kiddie Kart race karts
racing in mall parking lots to a high tech form
of racing. Quite a few of today's racing stars have
come from karting including Billy Boat, and J.J.
Yealy, both who raced at AKA Speedway, and many
of the younger drivers that race professionally.
One organization that provides this
less expensive alternative to race cars is the Arizona
Karting Association which was established in 1987
as a non-profit organization to promote the family
sport of kart racing and the overall enjoyment of
racing Karts. The track is 1/5 mile in length and
hosts the Annual Holiday Classic
each year in late December.
Arizona Karting Association's Race
Schedule includes events every 2nd and 4th weekend
from February through November.
Arizona Karting Association is located
in Phoenix, Arizona in the International Kart Federation
(IKF) Region 7. For instructions to get to the track
go to the Track Info Page.
Spectators are admitted free of charge for all
races. A pit pass for admission to the race pits is $10 for 5 years
old and over and FREE for under 5. Insurance forms must be signed
and wristbands must be worn at all times while in the pit area.
Driver Entry fees are $40 for members and $60 for non-members. Open
practice sessions are held the day before the race with a $15 per
driver fee. Annual membership to AKA is $60.
The track also features a snack
bar.
